The air is already starting to get hot by the time I wake up. Guarding the herd all day or all night is easy compared to the twilight watch. I can never get used to it, but this morning was even worse with all of the excitement last night. First, we are visited by strangers who claim to be friends, and then we are attacked by more of these monstrosities. I'm not convinced that the two aren't related. Still, these visitors helped us fight of the monstrosities, so perhaps they aren't all bad.
As the villagers rush around preparing to defend themselves, I decide to investigate where these creatures came from. Starting from the pile of gore leftover from last night, I am able to track the path of the creatures back to the underbrush that they emerged from. These disgusting creatures leave such an odorous smell, that it would be nearly impossible for me to lose the scent. It only takes me a few minutes to track down where they had come from. There is a small den set up in some nearby brush that indicates that the beast were there waiting for an opportunity to attack. This does not look good for our visitors. Either the beasts were working with the visitors, or the beasts were waiting to ambush them. I will have to get more information before I can tell for sure. It only takes a few minutes to find the trail leading to this den, so I follow it deeper into the woods.
I follow the scent for a few meters, only to find another den further north. The scent is starting to fade from here, but is still strong enough to follow. After following the path for a few more meters, another den, and another, and another. The monsters have been circling around this area for a long time, it would seem. Sniffing around the latest encampment, I almost miss the twig snapping in the brush off to the left. My ears perk up, trying to focus on the source of the sound. Standing stiff and silent, I can hear movement all around me. I sniff the air.
"Oh, no. No, no, no..." I whimper. I've wandered into timber wolf territory, and they've got me surrounded. "Maybe they will understand," I think out loud. "Maybe they will let me go, if I explain.."
The snap of sharp teeth on my hind legs tells me that isn't going to happen..
