Jolene remembers the night that she found her mother, she now thought it that her mother was clutching her fathers bible and cross.. Her mother had never really been a believer . Jolene remembered that her father was the one who always believed that god would help them and look after them. Her mother had always been a free spirit and always liked to move and preform and believed that the bible was a book for those who wished to push their idea of good and evil on people.
Jolene remembers her mother telling her of how she met her father. It happened right around the time of the economic break down. They were hiding from a gang of marauders. That were raping and pillaging everything . They were huddle together for warmth and safety . After that Jolene was born her parents along with her older sister tried to settle down and make a life together . It went well for the first couple of years until Jolene's maternal grand
mother came for a visit. Her father and grandmother fought all the time over beliefs and culture . Jolene's father wanted his daughter and stepdaughter brought up with and strong belief in god and to stay settled in one spot. Well Jolene's grandma thought that the way of the gypsy wondering and entertaining to make a living and to be allowed to chose what to believe .
Jolene's mother had always been influenced greatly by her mother. But Jolene thought that it was something more than that, she had heard her father talking about a dark ness that followed, her mother's side of the family. Jolene's father called it an evil that had to be wiped out. Jolene's mother and grandmother became very upset by this and accused Jolene's father of being a narrow minded religious zealot that saw evil around every corner. Shortly after that Jolene's grandma left never to return that Jolene could remember.
After that Jolene's parents seemed to be at odds most of the time. Than one night when her father was out a dark stranger came by for a visit ,he was welcome warmly by Jolene's mother but she told him that he could not stay long as Jolene's father would be home soon and there would be problems. The strange did not seem to worried at this news, in fact he seemed to like the idea of this. After lots of begging the strange agreed to leave but said he would return later.
As he left Jolene thought she heard her fathers voice yelling something in the distance, than she heard what sounded like an ere howl and a scream, as well as what sounded like sounds of a heated battle.
As Jolene ran for the door her mother stop her and told her it was not safe to go out and that she would try and explain later. The sounds of battle seemed to go on all night long. When the sounds of battle end
it was starting to get light before the battle ended, a while later a loud banging came to the door Jolene's mother bid the girls to stay back and drew out a knife that Jolene had never seen before as well as she heard her mother say something in a languge that she had only heard her grandmother speak. Than she slowly approached the door and asked who it was the girls did hear who it was but they saw their mother put the knife away and let some one in.
Jolene recognised it as one of her fathers friends, after a short conversation the girls heard there mother scream and start to cry. The girls later found out that their father had been killed, they also heard their mother say that it was her fault .
